Tropical Mountains‘ organic certified coffee comes directly from our own farm in Peru and therefore has a special transparency and quality. Every single production step can therefore be followed closely and makes the coffee experience exceptional. The result is a special gourmet pleasure without any remorse.
Please introduce your company in three sentences
With Tropical Mountains, Zurich-based Thomas Schwegler brings 100% sustainable coffee into Swiss households. The packaging is compostable, an entire Peruvian village benefits from the sale, the taste is award-winning. Schwegler’s wife Gisella runs the farm in Peru. In addition to producing organic coffee, she actively supports the local population, raises money for school projects and ensures that the top-quality coffee reaches Switzerland.
Why did you decide to work with Farmy?
Farmy stands for healthy, high-quality products straight from the farm. We embody the same. Coffee is often bought through many middlemen, losing transparency and quality in the process. Together with Farmy, we aim to offer our customers fair, transparent and high-quality coffee.
What changes has the crisis brought for your company?
It has shown that it is important to be flexible. As we can no longer sell to restaurants, hotels or businesses, we are focusing more on online sales — which is working very well. As a small family business, Tropical Mountains is flexible and has few fixed costs, which helps us now in times of crisis. Most importantly, we can rely on our loyal customers.
Do you see any potential or opportunities arising from the crisis?
The slowdown is an opportunity for everyone. During this time, I am becoming more aware of what is important to me in life. The environment is able to breathe a sigh of relief for a while, as can the animal kingdom. I hope that politics and business will do something positive. Constant acceleration is unhealthy for our planet.
