At Zahner Fischhandel in Gommiswald, sustainability and culinary quality have top priority. The fresher the fish, the better the taste and experience during the meal. Therefore the company offers a variety, from caviar to smoked fish in the highest quality and warms the heart of every fish lover with their selection.

What is special about your products and their production?

We refine all our fish products by hand with love, care and passion. To carry out processing steps in the refinement, which are unique to us, and give the customer a quality advantage over other products.

Please introduce your company in three sentences

Zahner Fishhandel is a second-generation family business which was founded as a one-man business in 1985. Our focus is on quality and service, which is how we distinguish ourselves. Among our house specialties are our handmade battered fish and smoked salmon.

Are your products certified? If so, by which certifications and why?

Our products are all sustainable and some of them are allowed to have a label: MSC, ASC, FOS, BIO, Naturland and Culinarium.

How does a normal working day look for you?

Early in the morning, the last orders are prepared and delivery documents are created. All sales areas are also still being filled to capacity. After that all vehicles are put on the road and go to our customers. In the morning there is a little office for processing. After lunch, we return to the procurement of goods and the preparation of new orders. If there is still time left, I might personally lay out some nets in the lake to hopefully lift them up again the next morning full of fish.

Which channels do you use to sell your products?

We sell to end consumers directly from production, mobile sales at markets and online. Furthermore we supply the gastronomy industry directly or through distribution partners.

What changes has the crisis brought about for your company?

The availability and procurement of certain products and raw materials has become more difficult. We are also lacking volume, which we were able to generate through supplying the restaurant/catering industry.

Do you see any potential or opportunities arising from the crisis?

Definitely, we have to come out of this crisis stronger. We have to use the time to move the company forward in every respect. An example of this could be the revision of our website or the development of new products.

Why did you decide to work with Farmy?

With Farmy we have found a partner who gives our products an online presence.

Working with Farmy is fun every day. It is also interesting to observe the ordering behaviour of the customers.
