Delicious, spicy, sweet and boozy mulled wine is the classic taste of holidays loved by practically everyone. It’s so popular that every year you see yourself buried under the avalanche of recipes of the Glühwein. Yet we can’t stay away from this party either.
But we’d like to be on the brighter side and so here’s to our white mulled wine. It’s dead simple and has the same flavorful depth of the classic variant, but is lighter in body. And definitely more uncommon.
White mulled wine
Take one bottle of wine. We assume you probably should have your favorite, but in case you’re in trouble, we urge you to give a look at our nice exhibition of white wines here.
That’s already 50 % of the quest completed. Then you’d need 1 orange, 3 anise stars, 5 whole cloves, ~1 inch/3 cm of ginger, ¼ cup/ 50 g of sugar and 1 cup of water. Didn’t we say it was going to be simple?
Then peel orange in strips using a vegetable peeler (don’t be intimidated by the name – it peels fruits too!), combine them with other ingredients (omit the wine), bring to a gentle simmer, stirring to dissolve sugar, and cook for 10 minutes. Off from heat, and now add wine. Let stand for 20 minutes.
You are ready to serve. Call out your relatives, friends and neighbors, fill their glasses (don’t forget to reserve for yourself) and start festing.
What do you think?
