Some members of the team based in Zurich share a few words on how the current situation has impacted their daily routines

How has your daily routine changed?

Roman, Co-CEO and Co-Founder

There are no more meetings with external people, but rather daily several video call meetings. My role switched to someone who is ensuring that the people do not start to panic, giving them a feeling of safety and providing structure.

Tobias, Co-CEO and Co-Founder

We need to plan and act more short term than before.

We get even less sleep than usual already. Due to COVID-19, the purchasing team was confronted from one day to the next with a gigantic demand for dry products and hygiene articles – all of which we usually have the quantity of for several weeks in our warehouse. But now the goods are turning on pallets in a 2 day rhythm! A completely new situation – immediate actions had to be taken: therefore we used the adjacent fitness center as an intermediate storage and a frozen container had to be organized. It was also necessary to stabilize the supply chain in the fresh produce area and to anticipate the large quantities with our producers so that there would be no major delays in the daily deliveries of cross-docking goods… Finally, I have hired a chef who now provides the entire Zurich Hub Team with a fine lunch and dinner. Yummy!

The amount of video calls increased dramatically. Aditionally, the change of me working from one single location isolated from Farmy instead of (as it was before) working at three different locations with the teams there is the biggest (and saddest) change.

My daily routines change constantly. To follow the fast growing path, Farmy fullyy changed operations 4 times within the last few years and new big changes are coming up this year. From a very amateur process in 2014 to an industry benchmark our philosophy is to be creative, adapt and change fast to always provide the best an most reliable service. And that is exactly what we are doing right now.

Some clients are scared and panicked by Corona. Sometimes even as if I was the corona virus myself. A lot of clients are very thankful, show solidarity, and tip a little more. I have more delivery tours to do – daily up to 3 hours more than before. I do not go out anymore: every Saturday I used to meet up with friends and played cards. I cannot do that aymore. I also miss going to the gym. Work has become more intense, because I am constantly watching out for hygene and what I am touching. I feel like I am washing my hands and desinfecting them every minute. We, the couriers, are on the Corona frontlines, if I may say so. But all in all, I am extremely thankful to be able to work so much and the work at Farmy is highly enjoyable.

I’m a bit scared because I am in contact with many people every day. I put the orders in front of the doors and ring the doorbell with my elbow. Some people find it odd but most understand and are happy to see me come by. One time this family told me they were in quarantine, so I left as soon as I could. The children yelled out their windows while laughing that it was all a joke. It was all good in the end. The other customers that know me now put their tips in envelopes or glasses and leave them in their post boxes for me which I highly appreciate. Overall it is a somewhat weird time.

Is there something you would like to tell people?

Roman, Co-CEO and Co-Founder

As someone who grew up back in USSR I remember times where the food stores were almost empty for years. People were helping each other a lot and I don’t remember to know anyone who was really starving. Our current situation is not funny, but I can assure you that we do not see any serious upcoming food supply bottlenecks. We will together get through this crisis and become a stronger and more accommodating society.

Tobias, Co-CEO and Co-Founder

THANK YOU for your support and thanks to the whole Farmy team for their great team work!

First of all, my greatest thank and deepest respect goes to my Purchasing & Content Team. Extraordinary situations require extraordinary people: Steffi, Bettina, Andrea, Carmen, Silvia, Ana, Yulia & Daniel – they have all grown beyond themselves in this challenging time. But of course, I would also like to thank all the other Farmy-Heroes in other departments, our producers and suppliers who do an extraordinary job every day to maintain the food supply in Switzerland. Keep on rocking…

My operational team is full of the most wonderful people! We grew by 300% in 2 weeks, and despite this stress and crazy hours, they still do their best every single day with an impressive motivation. All the the congratulations go to them!

Stay healthy, y’all!

To our clients: I am very grateful that you appreciate our work so much and show so much solidarity. I am rigourous with my body hygene and desinfect my hands carefully. You do not need to be scared of me. We are all in the same boat. To everyone: I wish everybody to stay healthy from the bottom of my heart. Stay home.

I always have my personal desinfectant with me. I desinfect everything after every contact – also my car. I would be happy if everyone would do the same. That would be safer for all of us.
