For the past few weeks, a food trend has been going viral on social media: the tortilla hack! Chances are, when scrolling through your feed, you’ve already come across short videos that show off this delicious trend in a variety of ways. We are totally blown away by how quickly these wraps are prepared and how versatile they can be. That’s why we want to introduce you to the wrap hack in this post.
Tortilla Wrap Hack 101 – The Basics
First, you’ll need a base. This can be a wheat tortilla, whole wheat wrap, or even piadina. There’s even a Japanese version circulating on TikTok, where seaweed leaves are topped with sushi ingredients. It’s obvious that this hack can be based on practically anything that’s flat, foldable, and (of course) edible.
Regardless of which version you choose, the first step is a small cut from the edge to the center of the wrap. This is what allows you to fold the base loaded with yummy ingredients.
For the next step, the trick is to fold the individual quarters clockwise on top of each other until they form a layered wrap.
Then toast the wrap in a panini press or on a griddle until it is nice and crispy. Alternatively, you can fry it in a pan until golden brown with a little bit of olive oil. It takes about 3-5 minutes on both sides respectively. A lid helps to speed up this process. Ensure that the pan is preheated well. That’s it!
Three Recipes to Try Out
Hungry now? Great! We have three different versions that may provide inspiration for you – they’re quick to make and require few ingredients only.
A Different Kind of Burrito
Let’s face it – burritos aren’t the cleanest of meals. But with this hack, you can avoid the ingredients constantly falling out of the wrap in the process. What’s more, this recipe is simply delicious!
For our slightly different burrito, you’ll need the following ingredients:
- 2 tbsp salsa
- 2 heaped tbsp long grain rice (20 g uncooked)
- 3 tbsp / 20 g minced meat (or a plant-based alternative)
- 3 tbsp / 25 g grated cheese
- 2 tbsp / 25 g kidney beans, pre-cooked
Breakfast Wrap
The perfect idea for your next Sunday brunch – the Breakfast Wrap! With this one, typical breakfast items can be placed on a tortilla wrap instead of on a plate!
We’ve chosen the following ingredients:
- ¼ Avocado, mashed with a fork
- scrambled eggs made from 1 egg
- ¼ of a big vine tomato, diced
- 1 small spring onion
- 1 handful / 10 g baby spinach
Piadina con mozzarella
The Italian classic: the unbeatable combination of mozzarella and tomato, prepared in a slightly different way.
Here, a piadina is used as the base and topped with these ingredients:
- 3 slices of mozzarella
- 2 tbsp basil pesto
- 5 half slices of 1 tomato
- 1 handful / 10 g rocket
We hope you have fun experimenting with this delicious trend. Enjoy!
