What do you do when it’s freezing outside and your kids are desperately crying for attention?
I grab some simple ingredients and let my little one get messy with them. Well, officially we call it “making cookies” but in the end you know – we are both covered with flour and cocoa.
So, here’s our recent favourite recipe of chocolate cookies with Smarties sweets. They are soft, chewy, not overly sweet and fun to make with kiddies! Feel free to replace sweets with chocolate chips, any kind of chopped chocolate chunks or just make them plain – they will still turn out delicious.
Ingredients
- 1 egg at room temperature
- 125 g Butter at room temperature
- 90 g brown sugar
- 80 g white sugar
- 150 g all purpose four
- 150 g cocoa powder I prefer dark
- 0,5 tsp baking soda
- 1 pinch salt
- 1 pack Smarties (or M&M's) sweets small pack is enough
Servings: cookies

Instructions
- In a large bowl beat butter and sugars with a hand mixer for about 3 minutes - the mass will become light and fluffy.
- Break the egg into the mixture and continue to beat with the mixer for another minute. Sift flour, salt, baking soda and cocoa powder into another bowl and then add to the batter. Mix with a spoon or spatula until well combined. Form the dough into a ball, wrap into plastic foil and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
- Line a baking tray with baking paper and preheat the oven to 180 C. Form cookies from the chilled dough - take a piece of the dough (walnut size is enough) and shape a ball with your hands.
- Place the shaped balls onto the tray and flatten a bit with the bottom of a cup.
- Place 4-5 Smarties sweets on the cookies. Bake for 10 minutes, then let cook down completely on the baking tray.
