There is always the possibility of making a dish healthier, especially when it comes to “junk food”. So here’s a healthy version of the famous mozzarella sticks to treat your friends to during your aperitifs.
Ingredients
- 120 g Mozzarella sticks or pizza mozzarella cut into sticks
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp cornstarch
- 3 tbsp brown oats (certified gluten-free)
- 2 tbsp gomasio
- 1 tbsp herbs of Provence

Preparing the sticks
- Cut the sticks in half or the whole mozzarella into sticks.
- Prepare the 3 bowls for the homemade breading: one bowl with the cornstarch, one bowl with the beaten egg, one bowl with the oat flakes. Add the gomasio and the herbs of Provence to the oats and mix it all together.
- Dip your mozzarella sticks in the cornstarch, then in the egg, then in the oat-gomasio mixture. Coat the sticks well on all sides. Place them on a baking sheet or plate covered with baking paper.
- When they are all coated, let them set in the freezer for at least 1 hour before cooking.
Cooking the sticks
- For cooking, you have 2 possibilities:
- –– Take the mozzarella sticks out of the freezer. Then heat a drizzle of olive oil in a frying pan and brown the sticks for about 3 minutes on each side. Reserve the excess oil on absorbent paper.
- –– Or, using a brush, brush your sticks with olive oil on each side. Bake in the oven at 180°C for 6 minutes, making sure to flip them halfway through.
- Serve your mozzarella sticks with a homemade tomato sauce!
