As the holidays approach, there’s nothing better than impressing your guests with a simple yet gourmet dessert which highlights the bold combination of dark chocolate and mandarin orange… 3,2,1, here we go!

Tangerine heart
  1. Place the tangerine slices in a saucepan with the sugar and vanilla and simmer for about 20-30 minutes over medium heat.
  2. Remove from the heat and set aside in a cool place or in moulds (mini half-spheres) in the freezer (your choice).
Chocolate batter
  1. In a bowl, whisk the eggs and sugar until the mixture whitens and add the tagerine zest.
  2. In another container, melt the chocolate and butter in a double boiler.
  3. Once the chocolate and butter have melted, pour over the eggs, sugar and zest and whisk again.
  4. Add the flour and whisk until the mixture is smooth.
  5. Butter and flour the moulds and then fill up to half with the batter.
  6. Add the the tangerine heart and cover with the other half of the chocolate mixture.
  7. Bake it for 6-8 minutes in a preheated oven at 200°C.
  8. Wait a few minutes before unmoulding and serve warm or cold.
Recipe Notes

If you want, sprinkle with some icing sugar before serving. You can also add a scoop of vanilla ice cream, which is always a nice addition to any dessert.
